Description
Depicts the 1850 opening ceremony of the Prince's Bridge over the Yarra River by the Lieutenant Governor Charles Joseph La Trobe (or Latrobe) as soldiers fire a salute. There is a large crowd of spectators in the foreground, and on the on horizon at the centre is the tower of St James Cathedral (since moved to a new site on King Street to the west).
