Keeping communication clear between Mersing and Endau
Description
Under machinegun fire and bombing attacks, Sgt Geoffrey Cyril Bingham, (NX32437) 8th Division Signals, with two other men, repairs damaged telephone wires between Mersing and Endau, Malaya. Bingham was captured following the fall of Singapore, becoming a prisoner of war of the Japanese. After his liberation, Bingham was awarded a Military Medal for his “bravery and devotion to duty at Endau and Singapore Island.”
