Battin' the breeze (Sergeant Frederick Nielsen (USAAF) and Private Sam Brook (Australian))
Description
Depicts Sergeant F. K. Nielsen, 9 Fighter Squadron USAAF on the left chatting with Private Sam Brook, returned for Middle East, Darwin. The objective of this drawing was to capture a typical American GI and typical 'digger'. The American phrase 'battin' the breeze' was a colloquial reference to having a chat. The two soldiers pictured had never met before posing for Hodgkinson, smoking Lucky Strike cigarettes.
