Funeral of Major-General Bridges
The late Major General Sir William Throsby Bridges KCB, CMG, General Officer Commanding the 1st Division Australian Imperial Force mortally wounded at Anzac Gallipoli on 15 May 1915 died on the way to Alexandria 18 May 1915. Film shows scenes of the funeral service at Melbourne 2 September 1915. Outside St Paul's Cathedral. Pall-Bearers carrying the coffin from the cathedral to the gun carriage. The Pall-bearers were Admiral Sir William Cresswell, Senator George Foster Pearce Minister For Defence, Mr Joseph Cook Leader of the Opposition, Mr Andrew Fisher the Prime Minister, Colonel R E Williams Acting Military Commandant of Victoria; Colonel G G H Irving and Colonel J Stanley. The route along Swanston and Collins streets lined with soldiers. .
