New Guinea art show (News from home No. 53)
Description
An art show of pictures painted by Australian and United States troops in New Guinea broke attendance records. The show was sponsored by the United States Red Cross and was attended by over 30,000 civilians and service personnel. A ballot was conducted for the most popular art work. The winner was "Serenade" by U.S. pilot Robert Pearce of Nebraska. Also depicted is "No 1 Fella Boy" by Australian Thomas Henry Morgan, who was killed in action after making his painting.
