Royal Papuan Constabulary
Description
Under war-time conditions the Royal Papuan Constabulary (RPC) was not wholly composed of Papuans; it included natives from the Mandated Territory of New Guinea. The prefix 'Royal' was granted by King's warrant in August 1939. More than six hundred young natives are daily put through their paces, on parade, marching, rifle drill etc., At Bisiatabu where the RPC training depot lies in a picturesque setting in the foothills of the Owen Stanley Range. The RPC has their own band under bandmaster Warrant Officer D. Crawley. Several of the members have loyal service medals and sergeant Major Bagita, Senior Non-Commissioned Officer in Moresby District Native Police Force has two ten year service stars and has seven years in towards his third.
