Wodonga cattle sale, June 1944
Description
On 23 June 1944 the largest Wodonga sale of beef cattle for forty years was held. Three thousand four hundred head of beef breeds, Herefords, Hereford-Shorthorn cross, Devon Shorthorns, Aberdeen Angus. Keen biding and top prices; cattle came from hill country as far away as Armidale, Tenterfield and from the slopes of Kosciusko. The cattle are sold, fattened up on the rich pastures of southern properties for a month or two then slaughtered to help feed allied servicemen. Australia's principal single item supplied under reverse lend lease was food.
