Paratroops land Markham Valley and Nadzab
Description
On Sunday morning 5 September 1943 American paratroopers of 503 Parachute Infantry Regiment, supported by Australian artillerymen of 2/4 Field Regiment, AIF landed by parachute at Nadzab in the Markham Valley. Shows Americans and Australians at Tsili Tsili airstrip preparing for the drop, aircraft in flight and the drop over Nadzab. This was the first time that Australian artillery had been dropped by parachute into action. Identified personnel: General Douglas MacArthur, Colonel C Kinsler CO 503 Parachute Infantry Regiment.
