Description

Calgary, Alberta Canada, January 1945: The men from "down under" of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan receive training and get their wings before returning home to be posted. Ten thousand Australians and six thousand seven hundred and forty seven New Zealanders received their entire training in Canada as well as 1200 who after basic training in Australia finished their general and operational training here. The first British Commomwealth Air Training Plan (BCAT) Plan was signed on 17 December 1939, the second in July 1942, to last until 31 March 1945. Thousands of students have been trained - boys from the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, Bermuda, India... from all over the Empire and many volunteers from the United States.
