Description

Last week it was announced that the last Hurricane had been deliverd. They have fought in every theatre of the war all over the world. Today, comes news of these famous aircraft operating against the Japanese in the Far Eastern battle-front. This is an RAF Squadron - whose main job is to give close support to the Army elements. They do not have long to rest between missions - even whilst the latest sortie is returning - pilots are being briefed for the next series of targets, these include enemy tents, bridges and a special target. The briefing is done by RAF Intelligence and Army Liaison Officers. The special target is a nice precision one and very accurate bombing is required. The briefing officer explains that between fifty and sixty Japs [sic] are hiding in a temple situated in one of the villages close by - their job is to destroy the temple but only the temple. Whilst this is going on their aircraft are being serviced and five hundred pounder bombs loaded under the mainplane. So they are on their way to the target - it was destroyed including the Japs [sic] and their supplies of rice. No other temple in the village suffered despite the fact that twelve five hundred pounders were dropped. Once again the famous Hurri-bomber returns to it's jungle base - and one of the aircraft is damaged - apparently the pilot made so sure of his target that he flew too low and hit a bamboo - part of which is recovered from the leading edge of the wing.
