[Australians serving with No. 137 Squadron RAF] (C/B 326)
Description
Opening scene of a rocket-armed Hawker Typhoon fighter bomber of No 137 Squadron RAF (code SF-M) taxiing on an unidentified airfield. Typhoon parks and Australian pilot climbs out of the aircraft and moves toward the camera. Study of the pilot. Scene changes to RAF armourers assembling tail fins and warheads of rocket projectiles. RAF sergeant lectures pilots on the rocket warheads.
Pilot is believed to be 413056 Pilot Officer Mark John Whitby DFC, of Cowra, NSW. Whitby was posted to 137 Squadron in May 1944, his log book records him flying Typhoon SF-M on numerous occasions in February 1945.
