Description

An RAAF Iroquois "dustoff" helicopter based in South Vietnam takes off after receiving an urgent call to pick up a wounded soldier. A crewman door gunner gives covering fire and a protective "gunship" stands ready to keep the Viet Cong at bay; a stretcher is lowered to the wounded soldier who is winched up into the helicopter and transported back to a field dressing station at the Australian Task Force H.Q. other wounded are flown direct to the 8th Field Ambulance at Vung Tau. Here the wounded are transferred to RAAF Hercules medical evacuation aircraft and are flown direct to Richmond airfield, NSW thence to service hospitals.
