Vung Tau orphans in new home
Each Sunday for the past 19 months RAAF personnel have carted building materials out to the site of An Phong orphanage project situated some 6 miles from Vung Tau on a hill overlooking the China Sea. Now this task is ended. At a special ceremony attended by the mayor of Vung Tau and other civic dignitaries, the O.C. of the RAAF contingent Vung Tau, Air Commodore, N.P. McNamara, AFC, officially handed over the project to the priest who will direct it, Father Nguyen Van Qui, whose idea of an orphanage grew out of his interest in the many vagabond boys who inhabited the districts. These boys were gathered into a town called An Phong which translates as "Winds of peace". The project was taken up as a civil aid project by Father Grannall and continued by his replacement Chaplain Rodger Boerth. Father Grannall was flown up from Australia to attend the opening.
