Air defence build-up in the west
Description
The RAAF No. 5 Airfield Construction Squadron has been set the task of re-building and upgrading the old wartime air strip at Learmonth for completion later this year so that Australia's defence of the eastern Indian Ocean can be augmented by the use of Orion and Neptune aircraft from the new airfield at Exmouth Gulf in Western Australia for their surveillance patrols over Indian Ocean areas adjacent to Australia.
