Melbourne Cup
A short film depicting the screening of the a newsreel film of the 1944 Melbourne Cup at an Australian military base at Lae. The screening was made possible under joint arrangement between the RAAF and Army Amenities Service, which was rushed from the racecourse via Sydney to Northern Battle Stations. The film opens with a shot of the Military History Section's office and Captain George Harvey Nicholson, ( VX117252), OC Military History Field Team, seated at table. Shots which follow include men playing cards, the side of a truck which reads "AMF Mobile Cinema Service - presented by the Motion Picture Industry of Australia", a clapperboard which reads "Mobile Cinema Tonight " Special - 1944 Melbourne Cup", the projectionist at work and the audience during the nightime screening at the outdoor cinema.
