Activities of 6 Division docks and supply units
Description
The beach area in the Aitape Harbour was the main supply terminal for the 6th Australian Division. Unlike most ports in New Guinea, the ground swell prevented the erection of piers and wharves. Ships anchored 400 yards off shore and unloaded supplies into landing craft, tank (LCT) barges controlled by American crews.
