Description

On 13 September 1945, Captain Soeda, Japanese Commander on Nauru and Ocean Islands, surrendered to 2950028 (NX49) Brigadier John Rowlstone Stevenson DSO on board HMAS Diamantina. Immediately following the surrender, troops of 31/51 Australian Infantry Battalion occupied Nauru Island, ending three years of Japanese control.
