Issue of Japanese swords to troops as souvenirs & destruction of Japanese dumps
Description
Many Japanese swords found in the Rabaul area were issued to troops for souvenirs. Some of these swords were found to be of great value and age - over four hundred years old - whilst others were of the mass produced type. Some seven thousand swords were distributed in Rabaul area. Scenes of Japanese ammunition being destroyed by breaking down and detonating the explosive filling. Shell cases were sent to Australia for scrap brass.
