Citation parade by Major General Eather
At 1100 hours 14 February 1946, the Pacific Islands Regiment (PIR) paraded at Vunacanau airstrip to honour five of their men who received decorations from NX3 Major General Kenneth William Eather CBE DSO ED, General Officer Commanding 11th Australian Division. The men in order of appearance: QX18484 Lieutenant John Colton Ward, 2nd New Guinea Infantry Battalion, who received the Military Cross; NX90737 Sergeant (now Lieutenant) Arthur Edwin Bennett, received the Military Medal (MM); Lance Corporal (Now Warrant Officer II) Bengaui, Pacific Islands Regiment (PIB), received the MM; PN463 Sergeant Tapioli, PIB, received the MM; PN480 Private Sala, PIB, received the MM. Also identified: 386 (VX85235) Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Fergus Buchanan MacAdie DSO, OC 3rd New Guinea Infantry Battalion, PIR.
