Governor General His Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester inspection tour of the troops under the command of 1 Aust Corps in the Atherton Tablelands area. On the 12 February 1945 the Governor General proceeded from HQ 1 Aust. Corps on a tour of inspection of 13 Aust. Advanced Ordnance Depot at Tolga North Queensland. Shows the Governor arriving to inspect a section of 13 Aust Advanced Ordnance Depot (13 AAOD). He is met by Captain Bertram. Accompanying the Governor General is Lieut-Colonel Gale CO 13 AAOD and Major McIntosh. The Governor General's party enters an American type igloo building. Departure of the official party by car. On 13 February 1945 the Governor General accompanied by GOC 1 Aust Corps Lieut.-General Sir Leslie Morshead, KCB, KBE, CMG, DSO, ED and Major General E.J. Milford, DSO GOC 7 Aust. Div. viewed units of 7 Aust. Division in the field in the Kairi area carrying out training and their normal duties. The Governor General was greeted by Major General Milford and Brigadier I.W. Dougherty DSO and Bar, Commander 25 Australian Infantry Brigade. The Governor General viewed members fo the 21 Aust. Infantry Brigade marching out on a 5 day exercise in battle order. Inspection of the Royal Guard of Honour accompanied by the Guard Commnder Major N. Peach. Inspection of "I" Section 2/10 Battalion with Brigadier F.O. Chilton, DSO Commander 18 Aust Infantry Brigade and Lieut.-Colonel T.J. Daly Co 2/10 Battalion. The official party also visitied the DID 7 Aust. Division and watched map reading and physical training classes. Shows review of the 2/33 Inf. Bn and 2/31 Inf. Bn. The Governor General took the salute with Brigadier K.W. Eather, CBE, DSO ED Commander 25 Aust. Infantry Brigade and Lieut- Colonel T.R. M. Cotton MC CO 2/33 Inf. Bn and Lieut Colonel E.M. Robinson CO 2/31 Inf. Bn. Visit to small arms practice at 2/31 Inf. Bn. Inspection of the 2/4 Aust. Field Regiment accompanied by 329 (VX30) Brigadier George Henry O'Brien OBE, CRA 7 Aust Div and NX12326 Lieut.-Colonel Alan John Blyth CO 2/4 Aust Field Regiment. A Bailey Bridge at Kairi was erected by RAE 7 Aust Division during the inspection. A "Flying Fox" was erected on the same site. On arrival at the RAE training area the Governor General was met by Commander Royal Engineers (CRE) 7 Aust Division Lieut. Colonel N.T. Jelbert. WX361 Lieut Colonel Norman Lawrence Fleay DSO CO 2/7 Aust. Cavalry (Commando) Regiment met the official party at Regiment's training area where they watched unarmed combat training and bayonet practise by 2/7 Aust. Cavalry (Cdo) Regt. On 14 February the Governor General visited 9 Aust. Division in the Ravenshoe area accompanied by GOC 1 Corps NX8 Lieut-General Sir Leslie James Morshead KCB, CMG, DSO, ED and 9 Aust. Division Major-General G.F. Wooten, CBE, DSO. The Governor General arrived by Avro Anson aircraft and inspected the Royal Guard comprising members of the 23 different units of 9 Aust. Division. The Governor General lunched with Lieut, General Sir Leslie Morshead and other senior officers. Demonstration of wire crashing by members of 20 Aust. Infantry Brigade. Scene of 2 Australian Medium Regiemnt waiting the arrival of the official party. Scene of 2/9 Australian Armoured Regiment marching to take up positions along the route. Demonstration by 2/9 Aust Armd Regt of an attack on a hastily prepared position.
