C.G.S. Lieut-Gen Sir John Wilton in Vietnam. DPR/TV/284
On his arrival at Tan Son Nhut airport, Saigon, the Australian Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Sir John Wilton, KBE, CB, DSO, inspected a Vietnamese Guard of Honour. After the inspection Lieutenant General Wilton proceeded to 1RAR HQ Bien Hoa, where he and General Officer Commanding Eastern Command, Major General T J Daly were met by O C 1 RAR Lieutenant Colonel I R W Brumfield. In the area troops were preparing to be transported by A P C on a patrol. Lieutenant General Wilton boarded one of the armoured personnel carriers and travelled with the troops on the initial stage of the patrol. Generals Wilton and Daly spent two days with the battalion while on their way to London to attend a Commonwealth Defence Conference. Cameraman Warrant Officer Class 2 Bryan Dunne.
