6th Bn RAR, Memorial Service DPR/TV/435
6 Battalion RAR held a memorial parade in memory of eighteen of their members who died in action against the Viet Cong at Long Tan. Chaplain R Thompson read the first lesson and led the troops reciting the Lord's Prayer. Delta Company Platoon Sergeant Ron Buick read the second lesson. A group of United States of America artillery men also mourn the loss of their allied comrades. The Vietnamese Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Thieu addressed the parade. After his address he presented a plaque to the Task Force which he handed to Brigadier Jackson. He then presented personal gifts to Lieutenant Colonel Townsend and to OC Delta Company Major H Smith and to seventeen other members of Delta and Alpha Companies, the 1st APC Squadron, 1st Field Regiment and 161 Battery of RNZA.
