Description

Three miles to the south of the Australian Task Force base, troops of the 5th Battalion RAR are building a fence which will be a Viet Cong barrier unique in Vietnam. Stretching for thousands of yards south from a fortified hill known as the 'horseshoe' the fence will eventually provide a permanent barrier between several villages and miles of Viet Cong infested jungle. 'Alpha' Company soldiers have built much of the fence and are working on this section. When completed the fence will be continually patrolled by South Vietnamese Government Groups. Identified personnel: Private Neal Twyford of Eltham Victoria, Corporal Brian Wood of Holsworthy, NSW, Lance Corporal Bruce Mason of Campbelltown, Private Jim Crowther of Gosford, Private Kevin Merrion of Newcastle. Cameraman Sergeant Mike Coleridge.
