Light the deep (Sentinel)
Description
The sole authority for the production of all navigational charts for Australia and adjacent seas lies with the Royal Australian Navy through its Hydrographic Office. A job commenced in 1807 and estimated to take a further forty years, clearly needed a rethink to get away from the traditional methods. Defence Scientists using special laser techniques have come up with a sophisticated yet comparatively simple device which will benefit the hydrographers of the world and make the sea a far safer environment for all mariners.
Defence scientists have developed an airbourne laser to map the seas.
