Studio portrait of 1421 Private (Pte) Cleveland Edward Starr, 2nd Battalion from Chatswood, NSW. A 26 year old plasterer prior to enlisting on 10 November 1914, he embarked for overseas with the 2nd Reinforcements from Sydney on 11 February 1915 aboard HMAT Seang Bee. He served with the Battalion at Gallipoli where he received a shrapnel wound. On recovering from his wound, he re-joined the Battalion in Belgium and was killed by a defective grenade in a training accident on 18 October 1916. Pte Starr is buried in the Longuenesse (St Omer) Souvenir Cemetery, France..
