Description

Group portrait of members of the Australian War Council taken outside the entrance to A Block of Victoria Barracks Melbourne. Identified in front row, centre, is Minister for Defence Sir George Pearce. Originally used to house the British Imperial garrison troops and later the Victorian Colonial forces, Victoria Barracks also housed the Defence Department and Army Headquarters post-Federation. A Block was built as quarters for officers and non-commissioned officers of the Imperial Forces and their families.
