Studio portrait of an Australian prisoner of war (POW) 1257 Private George Henry Featherstone, 32nd Battalion who was a 27 year old miner from Kalgoorlie, Western Australia when he enlisted and embarked for overseas with D Company from Adelaide on 18 November 1915 aboard HMAT Geelong. He was wounded and captured at Fleurbaix, France on 20 July 1916 and held as a POW in Germany until repatriated to England on 18 December 1918. Private Featherstone arrived back in Australia on 15 June 1919. Handwritten on the face of this photograph is 'Best respects G. Featherstone AIF'. The photograph was sent to 1546 Private Stephen Hall, a fellow POW - see image P00063.027.
