Description

Diary relating to the First World War service of 622 Private Herbert Vincent Reynolds, 1st Field Ambulance. In this diary, kept between 10 September 1914 and 31 December 1915, Reynolds details the period from his enlistment to his later convalescence in England. He describes his embarkation from Melbourne on HMAT Berrima and life on board the ship. In particular, Reynolds notes the occasions of Christmas and New Year's Eve on board, and also the troubles involved in towing submarine AE2 across the Indian Ocean. He also details military life at the various Australian military camps in Egypt and the sightseeing he undertook. The diary concludes with his convalescence and sightseeing in England.
