S.S Sadysta [SS Sadist]...What makes them smile
Description
A grotesque SS officer, wearing a monocle, sends a civilian woman to her death. The officer is in the centre of the image and is holding the woman by her hair. A whip hangs off his right arm. The woman is standing in front of a wall on which the shadows cast by a gallows is clearly visible. The print has been mounted on dark grey card. The title in Polish with English and French translation is printed bottom centre, beneath the image, in gold ink. The image is a macabre illustration of the sadistic treatment of civilians by the Gestapo.
The original drawing reproduced in this offset lithograph was created by Polish artist Stanislaw Toegel (1905-1953) while held in a German labour camp at Gotteningen.
