Nazywam sie Meier... [My name is Meier if one british bomb falls on Berlin]
Caricature of Reichsmarschall Hermann Goring (1893-1946) striding through the ruins of Berlin. He is dressed in full dress uniform and carries his jewel encrusted Reichsmarschall baton in his left hand. He is holding up an open right hand with red geraniums growing out of the palm. Dwarfed by his enormous mass in the lower left corner of the image is a caricature of Hitler wearing leidenhosen and giving a Nazi salute. He is shouting ' MEIER'. The artist is referencing a famous quote made by Goring (also Commander in Chief of the German Air Force) that if the Allies bombed Germany his name would nolonger be Goring but Meier. The name was very common in Germany and a recognisable Jewish first name.
The print has been mounted on dark grey card. A title in German is printed bottom centre, beneath the image, in gold ink. There are no Polish, English or French titles for this image.
The original drawing reproduced in this offset lithograph was created by Polish artist Stanislaw Toegel (1905-1953) while held in a German labour camp at Gotteningen.
