Studio portrait of 6706 Corporal (Cpl) Walter Garnet Bennett, 1st Battalion. A bookkeeper prior to enlisting on 2 August 1914, Cpl Bennett embarked for overseas service aboard SS Port Nicholson on 8 November 1916. He reverted to the rank of Private (Pte) on 1 March 1918. Pte Bennett was killed in action in France on 16 April 1918, aged 24 years old.
