Studio portrait of 2040 Lance Corporal (L Cpl) Frederick Elijah Burt, 37th Battalion. L Cpl Burt, a farmer from Johnsonville, Vic enlisted on 15 May 1916 and embarked from Melbourne on 25 September 1916 aboard HMAT Shropshire (A9). He was was killed in action in France on 29 September 1918 and is commemorated at the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France. He was aged 23. L Cpl Burt's brother, 210 Private William George Burt, 7th Battalion, was killed in action at the landing at Anzac Cove on 25 April 1915.
