Studio portrait of 1747A Private (Pte) Joseph James Wilkinson, 49th Battalion, of Belfast Ireland. Pte Wilkinson embarked with the 2nd Reinforcements from Sydney aboard SS Hawkes Bay on 20 April 1916. He was killed in action in France on 15 August 1916, age 19. His father, 3391 Pte Joseph Wilkinson subsequently enlisted on 14 of April 1917 to avenge his son's death. Pte Wilson Snr survived the war see also P11531.002
