Studio portrait of 3391 Private (Pte) Joseph Wilkinson, 42nd Battalion, of Country Antrim, Ireland . Pte Wilkinson enlisted on 14 April 1917 to avenge the death of his son 1747A Pte Joseph James Wilkinson the year previously. Wilkinson embarked with the 8th Reinforcements from Sydney aboard HMAT Hororata A20 on 14 June 1917. Following several months training at Larkhill camp in England he was invalided back to Australian on the grounds of chronic illness and discharged on 7 February 1918.
