Correspondence addressed or forwarded to Field Marshal Lord William Birdwood between 1921 and 1938

This folder contains 47 letters, postcards, and business cards sent from various correspondents to Birdwood between 8 January 1912 and 24 January 1938. Many of the letters discuss various visits of Birdwood to Australia in 1920, 1932, and 1934. Many also congratulate Birdwood on being admitted to the peerage and receiving a promotion to Commander-In-Chief, Indian Army. Other subjects discussed in these letters include the attitude of Australians towards Birdwood, the position of Governor-General of Australia, soldier settlement schemes, the RSSILA, invitations to visit Australia, the Birdwood scholarship, and war memorials. Many of these letters also recount meeting Birdwood during the First World War and other stories relating to service during this conflict.
