Description

These letters written by Dowling to his mother cover his experiences at the Western Front in France as part of the 107th Field Artillery Battery, including the use of a captured German dugout being used as a guard room while he was tasked with guarding German prisoners of war, and the excitement when a bombardier rushed into the room and informed those present of the armistice in November 1918.
