Description

Letters relating to the father of Major Geoffrey Gordon McCrae, 60th Battalion. This series of letters spans the period 1895 to 1922 and among others includes: a letter to McCrae’s father from Rudyard Kipling concerning a verse used for McCrae’s memorial; letters concerning McCrae’s Victory Medal; a letter from Harold Edward (Pompey) Elliott regarding the reasons for McCrae’s transfer from the 7th Battalion; a letter from McCrae’s father to McCrae detailing news from home and excited at the fact that he might be returning to Australia for convalescence; a letter concerning the war effort and mentioning the battle at Fleurbaix (Fromelles).
