Reynolds, Robert George (Sergeant, b.1916 - d.1942)
Collection relating to the Second World War service of 402979 Sergeant Robert George Reynolds, Royal Australian Air Force, Canada and United Kingdom, c.1941.
Collection consists of six souvenir postcard sets from Sergeant Reynolds to his fiancé, Miss Jessie Martin, dated between 28 January and 30 August 1941 [some dates unknown]. The postcard sets were sent from the Canadian Rockies, Ottawa, Halifax, Glasgow, Clyde Lochs, and Stratford on Avon, while Sergeant Reynolds was training to be an air gunner under the Empire Air Training scheme. On some of the postcard sets, Sergeant Reynolds writes short notes to Jessie about the places he had seen, being busy with work, his journey from Canada to the United Kingdom, and his plans for future leave.
Sergeant Reynolds later joined No. 49 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force. On 3 September 1942, he and his crew were shot down by an enemy fighter aircraft while undertaking an air operation over Belgium, and Sergeant Reynolds was killed in the crash.
