Toohey, Reginald Matthew (Gunner, b.1913 - d.1991)
Collection relating to the Second World War Service of VX15408 Gunner Reginald Matthew Toohey, 2/2 Field Regiment.
Wallet 1 of 1 - Collection consists of letters dated between August 1941 and January 1945 from Toohey to his family. Toohey was interned at Stalag VIII-B (later Stalag 344) and Stalag VII-A. and writes about experiences such as being part of a coal-mining work party, attending mass, receiving red cross parcels, parcels from home and letters, having an injured foot, an incident in which there was a fire and his barrack burned down, changing camps in order to receive dental treatment, and having Christmas in the camp. Toohey also responds to various items of news from home.
The collection also contains several letters to Toohey written by friends and family after the war.
