Description

Collection relating to the Second World War service of 9084 Warrant Officer Walter Ingelram Balfour-Ogilvy, Royal Australian Airforce, New Guinea, 1943-1944. Collection consists of a diary spanning the period 1 June 1943 to 25 October 1944. It contains regular entries, however with some pages likely missing, written on unbound unit diary pages (RAAF Form A133) and discusses Balfour-Ogilvy's everyday life in New Guinea. Common subjects include the weather and the huge amount of rain that fell on a very regular basis, letters to and from home, the indigenous peoples, aircraft spotted (in particular Kittyhawks and Beauforts), several parachute drops and training. Also mentioned are the Battle of the Bismark Sea, descriptions of Ferguson Island, and regular entertainment put on for soldiers.
