Description
William "Bill" Jarman served with the 2/1st Infantry Battalion during the Middle Eastern campaign. He was awarded the military medal at the capture of Tobruk and was cited for his "distinguished conduct and outstanding leadership". Following this the 2/1st Battalion was involved in the ill-fated campaign in Greece and Crete, which for many, like William resulted in capture. William was imprisoned in Stalag XIIIc in Hammelberg, Germany, where this portrait was drawn by a fellow prisoner.
Bill was later transferred to Oflag IIIc (later renamed Stalag 383), located in Hofenfels, Germany.
