Description

Collection relating to the Second World War service of VX39383 Captain John Norman 'Jack' Watt, Royal Australian Army Pay Corps, Singapore, 1942-1946. Collection consists of a large number of documents created by Watt in both personal and professional capacities as the AIF Command Paymaster of Changi prisoner of war camp between February 1942 and 1946. These documents include a diary spanning 1942-1944, approximately 70 documents detailaing pay conditions and audits at Changi contained in a single folder, financial statements, extensive and detailed accounts of the wartime experiences of Captain Watt (and others), nutritional and diet planning information and shopping lists, approximately 6 different nominal rolls and material provided for unofficial histories that encompasses speeches made by commanding officers, accounts of attacks etc. Also included in the collection are a modern transcript of Watt's diary and other documents, plus an analysis of these documents that provides historical context and further research. These were created by David Hardacre, volunteer with the RAAPC Museum at Simpson Barracks, Watsonia, Victoria.
