Description

Blue and green cotton long-sleeve kameez. The sleeves and chest are green, with a pattern of light green embroidered diamonds, below the chest is blue, as is the entire back. Three large light green embroidered diamonds go from the neckline to a pattern of light green embroidered diamonds that overlap the line where the blue fabric starts. The neckline is round, with a small triangular cutaway at the front. The body of the Kameez is split up each side seam from hip to hem.

History / Summary

Purchased by journalist Sally Sara in New Delhi in 2008 and worn by her while working as a correspondent for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in India, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Sara held a number of foreign correspondent positions for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, including Africa, Asia and Europe. In 2011 she was the Afghanistan correspondent, based in Kabul. Sara covered the Australian forces, as well as the wider war being fought by Coalition forces. Being a female reporter, Sara was able to speak to women in Afghanistan, and gain access to stories the male reporters could not.
