Pine Gap. The Most Important US Military Base In Australia...
Description
This poster promotes a protest march to Pine Gap organised by the Campaign Against Foreign Military Bases. In 1966 the Australian Government signed the Pine Gap Treaty and a joint US and Australian base was established in 1970 when 400 American families moved in. Still operational today the base has gone through various expansions and roles. Currently it is tasked with contributing to Global surveillance operations and provides data to the US Drone program. Over its history the Base has been a target of protests especially in the early 1980s.
