Description

Collection relating to the Second World War service of VX28252 Private Jack Blyth Knight, 2/21st Australian Infantry Battalion, Australia, 1941.

Collection consists of one notebook used as a diary, entitled "The Australasia Reporter's Note-Book." On the inside cover are Private Knight's details and within the rear cover is a note stating that Knight had not proof-read the diary, as he wrote it in a hurry and would likely not be up to his standards. Each page has its contents impressed upon the one beneath it, hence every second page is a copy of the one preceding it.

The diary begins on 1 April 1941, however it recounts events dated back slightly earlier, to 21 March. The diary keeps track of Private Knight's journey, by both train and motor convoy, from Bonegilla (near Wodonga) through Adelaide and Alice Springs to Darwin, and describes the different sights that he sees along the way.
