Description

Correspondence relating to the First World War service of Lieutenant Colonel Frederick William Gadsby Annand, 2nd Pioneer Battalion. This file contains correspondence both sent to and written by Annand during the course of his service abroad. Included are several letters to and from Annand’s family, in particular two letters from his sons regarding the design of a pulley and a yacht. Also included are a series of scenic and illustrated postcards, notably depicting Dublin and the Fovant Badges, which Annand has annotated with notes on his travels in the United Kingdom. Two photographic postcards depict children, presumably Annand’s, and several telegrams welcome him home to Australia as commanding officer aboard the retuning troopship H.T. “Norman”, including one from Victorian Premier Harry Lawson. The remainder of the items in this file are various greeting cards and handwritten notes.
