Description

Collection relating to the Second World War service of 401404 Flying Officer Claude Kenneth Turnley, No. 33 Squadron and No. 36 Squadron RAAF, New Guinea and Australia, 1945-1947.

Collection consists of 24 letters written by Turnley to his wife Linda (Lin) spanning the period 17 December 1945 to 23 February 1947. The letters largely discuss Turnley's work while based between Lae and Townsville immediately following the Second World War, with one letter from soon after he discharged, and once (partial and poor condition) letter from Singapore. The letters discuss home affairs, the living conditions in New Guinea, and a trip to Japan. The letters discussing Japan focus on the vast destruction following the completion of the war. The last letter in the collection discusses a post-war holiday to the River Murray.

Also included are two empty envelopes addressed to Linda, from Turnley.
