Vietnam troops homeward bound DPR/TV/614 & 615
Australian troops who have spent the last 12 months in Vietnam are on their way home. Gunners of 1st Field Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery, paraded for the last time at Nui Dat to be farewelled and presented with a Regimental tie by the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Begg. Meanwhile, troops of 5th Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment, were waiting at Luscombe Field to board U.S. Chinook helicopters. This time they would not be going into battle - they were going home. The giant helicopters operated a continuous shuttle service between the Task Force airfield and HMAS Sydney, anchored off Vung Tau. During the short flight they had their last look at the now familar terrain of Phuoc Tuy Province where they had fought during the past year. Sailors welcomed the soldiers on board the flight deck of the carrier and helped carry luggage. HMAS Sydney will march through the streets of Sydney with the other members of the Vietnam Force on Friday afternoon.
