Description

Wooden box with steel hinges and hasp. Painted blue with white squares with red crosses on the ends and rear side. On the front left hand side is a white oblong edged in red with 'MAJOR A.HAZELTON N.X.35134 A.A.M.C.' also painted in red. In the centre of the lid is a white oblong with a red '2' painted on it. The catch for the hasp is recessed into the box and each end is fitted with a rope handle.

History / Summary

This box was used by NX35134 Major Alan Richard Hazelton of C Company, 2/10 Field Ambulance, Australian Army Medical Corps. Hazelton was born in Sydney in November 1915 and enlisted in the Medical Corps on 25 July 1940. He was taken prisoner of war in Singapore in February 1942 and was held in camps along the Burma-Thai railway where he was the Senior Medical Officer for 'D Force' and at Nakom Pathom Base Camp in Thailand. He returned to Australia after the war.
