Diary relating to the First World War service of Lieutenant Colonel Rupert Major Downes, Head Quarters, Anzac Mounted Division. This diary written between 24 April and 25 July 1916 includes hand drawn maps and the action as it was told to him in April of 1916 during the prelude to the battle of Romani; His arrival in Romani and movement around the area including out to Suez and Cario; the heat and how it was affecting the men and horses; brief accounts of his daily activities and the led up to the battle at Oghratina on the 21 of July.
